Annotate/Shapes and arrows

Shapes and arrows

Shapes and arrows are the marks you will use most when you need to say “look here.”

Rectangle / ellipse

  1. Choose the rectangle or ellipse tool.
  2. Drag a box around the target.
  3. Adjust the stroke color and width so the point stands out.

Good for buttons, input fields, error messages, and comparing two areas.

Arrows and lines

  1. Choose the arrow or line tool.
  2. Drag from the start to the point you want to emphasize.
  3. Several arrows can show the order of an action.

Good for guiding the eye, marking a click, and showing a flow.

Pen

The pen is for an irregular outline. Keep the stroke moderate so the lines do not cover the image.

Tips

  • Stick to one or two accent colors on a single image.
  • Box the area first, then point at the detail with an arrow.
