Region capture
Region capture is the feature you will use most: select any rectangle on the screen, then annotate, copy, or save the image.
How to start
- Press the capture shortcut (default
Alt + Q), left-click the tray icon, or choose Capture from the right-click menu. - The screen enters selection mode. Drag over the area you want.
- Release the mouse to open the preview and annotation view.
Tip: nudge the edges while selecting so the image contains only what you need. For a fixed region or a delay, press Alt + W to open custom capture.
Common actions in the preview
- Copy: put the image on the clipboard so you can paste it immediately (
Ctrl + Cdoes the same in the session) - Save: export a local image file, such as PNG
- Annotate: add arrows, shapes, text, mosaic, and more (see the annotation docs)
- Record: start recording from the selection toolbar (see Screen recording)
- Cancel:
Escdrops this capture
Tips
- For a whole window, hug the window edges so the desktop background stays out.
- Cover account numbers, phone numbers, and other sensitive details with mosaic before you share.
- If you want the original image with no marks, copy as soon as the selection is done.
